Your Committee on Education, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 25, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:
board of directors, research corporation of the university of hawaii
HERBERT A. SEGAWA, for a term to expire on June 30, 2002,
begs leave to report as follows:
Upon review of the testimony submitted by the nominee, your Committee finds that the nominee has the necessary character, experience, and qualifications to serve on the Board of Directors of the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (Board).
Testimony in support of the nominee was submitted by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii.
Herbert A. Segawa is a resident of Hilo, Hawaii. He has extensive business experience, particularly with respect to insurance having worked in management positions with insurance companies for several years. In addition, Mr. Segawa served as a member of the State House of Representatives from 1974 through 1984. Currently, he is a consultant with Clinical Laboratory, Inc. He has served on the Board for the past seven years and his contributions have been valuable especially with regard to business and insurance matters brought before the Board.
Your Committee finds that the nominee has been appointed based upon his credentials, experience, and commitment to furthering the research and training activities of the University of Hawaii and the State.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, character, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.
