RESOLUTION
URGING ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII TO BEGIN THE DAY WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
WHEREAS, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York had far reaching short term impact for every state in the Union, including Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, September 11, 2001 will be a historical turning point for our country and state, with long term consequences that will affect the lives of future generations; and
WHEREAS, in the face of continued attacks, both real and
rhetorical, against the values and beliefs the United States of
America were founded upon, our people reflect upon and draw upon
the tradition, values, and beliefs that the United States were
founded upon; and
WHEREAS, continued validation of those values and beliefs by future generations will help insure perpetuation of that which is the essence of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, those values and beliefs are embodied within the Pledge of Allegiance; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Third Special Session of 2001, the Senate concurring, that all public schools in the State of Hawaii are urged to begin the school day with the Pledge of Allegiance; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Superintendent of Education, and to the principal of each public school in the State.
