The purpose of this informational briefing is to highlight the urgent threat climate change poses to Hawaiʻi. Rising sea levels, extreme weather, and ecosystem disruptions threaten homes, livelihoods, cultural practices, and vital resources. Coastal erosion endangers infrastructure and sacred sites, while changes in rainfall and temperature impact agriculture, water supply, and biodiversity. Climate change also worsens social and economic disparities, disproportionately affecting marginalized groups. Immediate action is critical as the window for effective solutions is closing.
This briefing aims to:
· Provide an overview of current climate trends and projected impacts.
· Highlight the pressing need for immediate and decisive action.
· Present actionable solutions tailored to Hawai'i's unique environment and communities.
· Foster collaboration among stakeholders to implement sustainable strategies.
Presentations by:
· Youth Voices on Climate
· Chip Fletcher, Interim Dean – School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), UH Mānoa
· Kainan Miranda and Melissa Pavlicek, Care for Aina Now
