STAND. COM. REP. NO.  2116

Honolulu, Hawaii

                , 2025

RE:   S.C.R. No. 112

      S.D. 1

      H.D. 1

Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura

Speaker, House of Representatives

Thirty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2025

State of Hawaii

Madame:

Your Committee on Culture & Arts, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 112, S.D. 1, entitled:

"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO LIGHT UP CITY HALL WITH PURPLE LIGHTS ON AUGUST 7 OF EACH YEAR IN HONOR OF NATIONAL PURPLE HEART DAY,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to request the City and County of Honolulu to light up City Hall with purple lights on August 7 of each year in honor of National Purple Heart Day.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from two individuals.

Your Committee finds that the Purple Heart is one of the most recognized, respected, and oldest military decorations that is awarded to service members of the United States Armed Forces who have been injured or killed in military service to the United States.  Your Committee further finds that meritorious acts of extraordinary fidelity service are the foundation of many modern freedoms enjoyed by the people of the United States.  Your Committee believes that it is appropriate for the State to specifically honor the sacrifices of service members who have received the Purple Heart.

Your Committee has amended this measure by:

     (1)  Specifying that the request is for August 7, 2025, rather than each year; and

     (2)  Changing its title to reflect the specific year.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Culture & Arts that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 112, S.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends its adoption in the form attached hereto as S.C.R. No. 112, S.D. 1, H.D. 1.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Culture & Arts,
