COM. REP. NO. 1874
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2025
RE: H.C.R. No. 96
Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty-Third State Legislature
Regular Session of 2025
State of Hawaii
Madame:
Your Committee on Health, to which was referred H.C.R. No. 96 entitled:
"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII TO EVALUATE AND EXPAND ITS CURRENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR STUDENTS,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to encourage the University of Hawaii to evaluate and expand its current mental health services for students.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure
from the Health Committee of the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i
and three individuals. Your Committee
received comments on this measure from the University of Hawai‘i
System.
Your Committee finds
that a student's mental health and well-being is critical for academic
success. Your Committee further finds
that although the University of Hawaii provides mental health services for
students, recent assessments and student feedback indicate that there is an
increased demand for these services.
This measure encourages the University of Hawaii to expand its existing
student mental health services to ensure all students within the University of
Hawaii System have access to comprehensive mental health support.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Health that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of H.C.R. No. 96 and recommends its adoption.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Health,
|
