SB 971

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO TRAFFIC.

Provides that if a law enforcement officer lawfully stops a motor vehicle and the operator is cited for driving without a valid license, the officer shall not permit the operator to resume the use of the motor vehicle.  Requires the motor vehicle to be moved by a licensed driver or towed at the owner's expense.  Provides that the cited operator is responsible for arranging the operator's transportation from the scene of the stop.

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO THE AIRCRAFT RESCUE FIRE FIGHTING UNIT.

Establishes that the Chief of the State Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Unit of the Airports Division of the Department of Transportation shall serve not more than three terms of four years each.

SB 141

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.

Establishes the eighth day of August of each year as "Hawaii Disaster Drill Day".  Requires the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with all state departments and agencies, to conduct drills and perform other activities for that day.

SB 1570

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.

Requires the Governor to declare a state of emergency and use emergency powers if air transportation service is unavailable, or foreseeably unavailable, to and from the island of Molokai or Lanai for longer than 24-hours.  Requires the Department of Transportation to plan and design an expansion of the runway at Molokai airport to accommodate larger aircraft.  Appropriates moneys.
