The purpose of this informational briefing is to provide the Committee an overview of the functions, operations, and programs of the Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation ("DCR"), the Hawaii Correctional System Oversight Commission, plans for a new Oahu Community Correctional Center Facility and other facilities within DCR, and the work conducted by the University of Hawaii Community Design Center to assist the transition of Hawaii's correctional system towards a rehabilitative and therapeutic model that provides more comprehensive support for those in custody in order to ensure more successful reintegration back into community where there is a continuum of community-based services and programs.

 

The following individuals are invited to participate in this briefing:

1.     Mr. Tommy Johnson, Director, Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, or his designees,

2.     Ms. Christin M. Johnson, Oversight Coordinator, Hawaii Correctional System Oversight Commission,

        or her designees,

3.     Mr. Keith Regan, Hawaii State Comptroller, or his designee, &

4.     Dr. Cathi Schar, Ph.D., University of Hawaii Community Design Center.

 

No public testimony will be accepted.
