     Your Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 136, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HAWAII STATE ENERGY OFFICE TO CONVENE A NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKING GROUP TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF USING ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER TECHNOLOGIES IN THE STATE,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to request that a working group convene to study the feasibility of advanced nuclear power in Hawaii as a source of renewable energy.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission, Sustainable Energy Hawaii, Go Green Alternative Energy Solutions, LLC., Nuclear Energy Institute, and from one individual. 

 

Your Committee received testimony in opposition to this measure from the Environmental Caucus of The Democratic Party of Hawaii, Maui Peace Action, Malu 'Aina Center for Non-violent Education & Action, 350Hawaii, Energy Justice Network, Greenpeace Hawaii, Hawaii Chapter of Americans for Democratic Action, Kauai Women's Caucus, Kulia I Ka Nu'u Outreach and Aloha Lokahi Association, and from 42 individuals.

     Your Committee received comments on this measure from the Hawaii State Energy Office and from one individual.

 

Your Committee has amended this measure as follows:

 

     (1) At line 27 on Page 3 a request that an interim report of         the working group's findings and recommendations,                including any proposed legislation, be submitted to the          Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the               convening of the Regular Session of 2026.

 

     (2) Technical, nonsubstantive changes for clarity,                   consistency, and style.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 136, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends its adoption in the form attached hereto as S.C.R. No. 136, S.D. 1, H.D. 2.
