COM. REP. NO. 1286
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2025
RE: S.B. No. 88
Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty-Third State Legislature
Regular Session of 2025
State of Hawaii
Madame:
Your Committee on Public Safety, to which was referred S.B. No. 88 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE HAWAII NATIONAL GUARD,"
begs leave to report as follows:
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaiʻi National Guard and three individuals.
Your Committee finds that some Hawaii National Guard servicemembers lose healthcare coverage from their civilian employers when they are required to take an indefinite leave of absence for active-duty military service. Your Committee further finds that the medical, dental, and vision coverage authorized by this measure will ensure that servicemembers and their families' access to health care is maintained when the servicemembers are called to serve on state active duty for more than thirty days.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Public Safety that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 88 and recommends that it pass Second Reading and be referred to your Committee on Finance.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Public Safety,
