Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.B. No. 378 entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE HAWAII HOUSING FINANCE AND DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose and intent of this measure is to establish a working group within the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation to identify existing mixed-use developments in the County of Maui for use as affordable housing and commercial rental leases.

Your Committee received written comments in support of this measure from the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation, the Chair of the Maui County Council, and Maui Chamber of Commerce.

Your Committee finds that despite recent efforts, there remains an urgent need for housing in the County of Maui and that this measure will help to identify potential properties that can be used by the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation to provide affordable housing and commercial rental leases.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 378 and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
