Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.B. No. 1553, S.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HAWAIIAN HOME LANDS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose and intent of this measure is to appropriate funds to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands to purchase a parcel of land.

Your Committee received written comments in support of this measure from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands; Hoomana Pono, LLC; and one individual.

Your Committee finds that moneys originally appropriated to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands during the 2022 legislative session for the purchase of available land, among other things, and later lapsed to the Act 279 special fund, established by Act 125, Session Laws of Hawaii 2024, are a more appropriate source of funding for this purchase.

Your Committee has amended this measure by changing the appropriation from general funds to moneys from the Act 279 special fund.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 1553, S.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Third Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 1553, S.D. 2.
