Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred S.B. No. 1502, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to appropriate funds for the College of Social Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the Business Administration Program at the University of Hawaii West Oahu to establish positions and fund operating expenses for workforce development programs that support the defense sector of the State's economy.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii Military Affairs Council; Chamber of Commerce Hawaii; Kapolei Chamber of Commerce; and one individual. Your Committee received testimony in opposition to this measure from the Malu ʻAina Center for Non-violent Education & Action; Kauai Women's Caucus; Academic Labor United; Greenpeace Hawaii; and five individuals. Your Committee received comments on this measure from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa; University of Hawaii-West Oʻahu; and University of Hawaii Professional Assembly.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 1502, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
