Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred S.B. No. 119, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO NURSING,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to appropriate funds for the establishment of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program at the University of Hawaii Maui College and for related costs, including costs for meeting the increased demand for prerequisite courses, additional personnel, supplies, equipment, simulation and laboratory upgrades, and instructional costs.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; State Health Planning and Development Agency; Hawaiʻi Nurses' Association - OPEIU Local 50, AFL-CIO; Healthcare Association of Hawaii; Hawaii Primary Care Association; Hawaiʻi - American Nurses Association; AlohaCare; and four individuals. Your Committee received comments on this measure from the University of Hawaiʻi System.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 119, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
