STAND. COM. REP. NO.  1706

Honolulu, Hawaii

                , 2025

RE:   H.C.R. No. 52

Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura

Speaker, House of Representatives

Thirty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2025

State of Hawaii

Madame:

Your Committee on Transportation, to which was referred H.C.R. No. 52 entitled:

"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO WORK WITH STAKEHOLDERS TO CONSTRUCT A SIDEWALK FOR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN IROQUOIS POINT AND EWA BEACH,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to urge the City and County of Honolulu to work with stakeholders to construct a sidewalk for pedestrian safety while traveling between Iroquois Point and Ewa Beach.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from three individuals.

Your Committee finds that pedestrian safety between Iroquois Point and Ewa Beach is a critical concern due to inadequate infrastructure, including poor lighting, overgrown vegetation, and the absence of sidewalks.  These conditions pose significant risks to pedestrians, particularly in an area where many community stakeholders desire to improve the safety and walkability of the neighborhood.  This measure will enhance pedestrian safety and prevent potential accidents in these areas.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Transportation that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of H.C.R. No. 52 and recommends its adoption.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Transportation,
