STAND. COM. REP. NO.  1890

Honolulu, Hawaii

                , 2025

RE:   H.C.R. No. 208

Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura

Speaker, House of Representatives

Thirty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2025

State of Hawaii

Madame:

Your Committee on Public Safety, to which was referred H.C.R. No. 208 entitled:

"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO MAKE RECREATIONAL FACILITIES ON MILITARY INSTALLATIONS IN HAWAII ACCESSIBLE TO ALL HAWAII RESIDENTS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to urge the United States Department of Defense to make recreational facilities on military installations in Hawaii accessible to all Hawaii residents.

Your committee received testimony from two individuals in support and one individual in opposition.

Your committee finds that the United States military maintains a significant presence in Hawaii including a wide range of high-quality recreational facilities, and that military installations in other states and jurisdictions have allowed varying degrees of public access to these recreational facilities.   Your committee believes that expanding public access to these recreational facilities would foster stronger relationships between the military and local community, promoting goodwill.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Public Safety that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of H.C.R. No. 208 and recommends its adoption.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Public Safety,
