     Your Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred H.B. No. 957, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO LAULAU DAY,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to designate the first Friday in May of each year as Laulau Day.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; Hawaii Farm Bureau; and numerous individuals.

 

     Your Committee finds that laulau is a treasured Hawaiian dish that represents cultural heritage, community, and tradition.  Its preparation and sharing are central to gatherings, celebrations, and fundraisers, highlighting its deep-rooted significance.  By designating the first Friday in May as "Laulau Day", this measure helps preserve laulau as a meaningful part of Hawaii's culinary and cultural identity.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 957, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
