Madame:

 

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 667, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO TRANSPORTATION,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to require:

 

     (1)  The Department of Transportation or appropriate county department when disposing of a deceased cat or dog from a public roadway to scan the animal for a microchip, record certain information, and report that information to the appropriate county animal services or animal service contractors; and

 

     (2)  A county agency assisting with the disposal of a deceased cat or dog found on a public roadway under the jurisdiction of the State to collaborate with the Department of Transportation in utilizing the Department's microchip scanners.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Department of Transportation; Hawaiian Humane Society; and three individuals.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 667, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
