Your Committee on Education, to which was referred H.B. No. 622 entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to change the due date of the Department of Education's annual computer science legislative report from June 30 to twenty days prior to the start of each regular session of the Legislature.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Department of Education.

Your Committee finds that the Department of Education is responsible for submitting an annual computer science legislative report every year by June 30th. However, the June 30^th reporting due date is too tight of a submission time to include quarter four computer science data from schools. This measure will delay the due date for the Department of Education's computer science legislative report to the end of the calendar year to allow the Department sufficient time to provide more data and a more complete computer science report to the Legislature and public.

Your Committee has amended this measure by changing the effective date to July 1, 3000.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 622, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Second Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 622, H.D. 1, and be placed on the calendar for Third Reading.
