     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 563, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII'S SPACE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING INITIATIVE,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to support the University of Hawaii's Space Science and Engineering Initiative by appropriating funds for salaries, office supplies, stipends, and other operational expenses for certain programs at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Institute for Astronomy.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii Technology Development Corporation; Department of Research and Development of the County of Hawaiʻi; Hawaiʻi Island Chamber of Commerce; Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Hawaii; The Success Factory - NexTech Hawaiʻi; Maunakea Observatories; Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce; and numerous individuals.  Your Committee received comments on this measure from the University of Hawaiʻi System.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 563, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
