     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 430, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO INTERNSHIPS,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to authorize and appropriate funds for the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to administer an on-the-job training work experience program that partners with private entities to increase opportunities for eligible high school and college and university students to participate in summer internship programs and allow internships with private sector employers through a costsharing strategy.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the University of Hawaiʻi System; Department of Education; State Council on Developmental Disabilities; Healthcare Association of Hawaii; Pacific Resource Partnership; Hawaiʻi Regional Council of Carpenters; Kohala Coast Resort Association; Hawaiʻi Forest Industry Association; Hawaiʻi P-20 Partnerships for Education; Hawaiʻi Primary Care Association; Liberty Dialysis Hawaiʻi; Hawaiʻi Pacific Health; Hawaii Food Industry Association; Kapolei Chamber of Commerce; Hawaiʻi Lodging & Tourism Association; and Maui Chamber of Commerce.  Your Committee received comments on this measure from the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

 

     Your Committee has amended this measure by changing the appropriation to an unspecified amount.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 430, H.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Third Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 430, H.D. 2.
