RE: H.B. No. 194
H.D. 1
Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty-Third State Legislature
Regular Session of 2025
State of Hawaii
Madame:
Your Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred H.B. No. 194, H.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO MARITIME DAY,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to designate May 22 of each year as Maritime Day.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii State AFL-CIO; Hawaiʻi Nurses Association OPEIU Local 50; Pride at Work Hawaiʻi; University of Hawaii Professional Assembly; International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists, and Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories, and Canada, Local 665; and one individual.
Your Committee finds that the maritime industry is an essential part of the economy and culture of the State. Maritime workers play a critical role in maintaining the seamless flow of commerce into and out of the State. Your Committee believes that designating May 22 as Maritime Day serves as a meaningful way to honor the dedicated efforts and contributions of maritime workers.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 194, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs,
