STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1986

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    GOV. MSG. NO. 733

Honorable Ronald D. Kouchi

President of the Senate

Thirty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2025

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 733, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

State Boxing Commission of Hawai'i

G.M. No. 733

EIICHI JUMAWAN,

for a term to expire 06-30-2029. (Seat Position corrected to Chairperson by GM739),

begs leave to report as follows:

Your Committee reviewed the personal history, resume, and statement submitted by Eiichi Jumawan for service on the State Boxing Commission of Hawaii.

Your Committee received testimony in support of the nomination for the appointment of Eiichi Jumawan from the State Boxing Commission of Hawaii and five individuals.

Your Committee received comments on the nomination for the appointment of Eiichi Jumawan from one individual.

Upon review of the testimony, your Committee finds that Mr. Jumawan's professional experience, knowledge, and commitment to public service qualify him for appointment to the State Boxing Commission of Hawaii as Chairperson of the Commission.  Your Committee notes that Mr. Jumawan is a two-time USA National Boxing Champion and six-time Hawaii State Boxing Champion.  Since then, Mr. Jumawan has worked in various roles in the sport of boxing and has remained a prominent figure in the Hawaii boxing community for over forty years.  Mr. Jumawan is the Executive Director of Pearlside Boxing, Inc., as well as the owner and head coach of Pearlside Boxing Gym.  In addition to his athletic achievements, Mr. Jumawan has gained significant coaching and officiating experience, having served as a referee and judge, coach, and official-in-charge at local and national boxing events and holds certifications as a USA Boxing Level III Official and an AIBA 1-Star Official.  Mr. Jumawan has also served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President of USA Boxing, Hawaii Association (formerly known as the Hawaii Amateur Boxing Association).  Your Committee further notes that Mr. Jumawan also previously served as a member of the Commission from 1996 to 2000 and his extensive background and expertise will further enhance the effectiveness of the Commission.  Your Committee therefore recommends that Eiichi Jumawan be appointed to the State Boxing Commission of Hawaii as Chairperson based on his experience, knowledge, and commitment to public service.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection,
