STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1985

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    GOV. MSG. NO. 732

Honorable Ronald D. Kouchi

President of the Senate

Thirty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2025

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 732, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

Board of Dentistry

G.M. No. 732

MARIANNE TIMMERMAN,

for a term to expire 06-30-2029,

begs leave to report as follows:

Your Committee reviewed the personal history, resume, and statement submitted by Marianne Timmerman for service on the Board of Dentistry.

Your Committee received testimony in support of the nomination for the appointment of Marianne Timmerman from the Board of Dentistry and one individual.

Upon review of the testimony, your Committee finds that Ms. Timmerman's experience, background, and commitment to public service qualify her for appointment to the Board of Dentistry (Board) as a licensed dental hygienist member.  Your Committee notes that Ms. Timmerman has been a licensed dental hygienist in Hawaii since 1991 and currently works as a dental hygienist with a local dental practice in Kailua.  Ms. Timmerman is actively involved in the dental hygiene community, serving in leadership roles with the Hawaii Dental Hygienist's Association and as a state representative to various clinical testing agencies.  Ms. Timmerman's extensive volunteer service as an examiner for state and national clinical dental hygiene examinations has also allowed her to stay up-to-date on the latest policy issues facing the dentistry and dental hygiene industry, making her well-equipped to provide valuable insight on the evaluation of clinical competency for licensure at board meetings.  Your Committee further notes that Ms. Timmerman previously served on the Board as a dental hygienist member from 2014 to 2019 and has a thorough understanding of the roles and responsibilities of its members.  Your Committee therefore recommends that Marianne Timmerman be appointed to the Board of Dentistry based on her knowledge, experience, and commitment to public service.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection,
