STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1851

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    GOV. MSG. NO. 503

Honorable Ronald D. Kouchi

President of the Senate

Thirty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2025

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Water and Land, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 503, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

Game Management Advisory Commission

G.M. No. 503

JASON SANBORN,

for a term to expire 06-30-2028,

begs leave to report as follows:

Your Committee reviewed the personal history, resume, and statement submitted by Jason Sanborn for service on the Game Management Advisory Commission.

Your Committee received testimony in support of the nomination for the reappointment of Jason Sanborn from the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Upon review of the testimony, your Committee finds that Mr. Sanborn's experience and knowledge qualify him for reappointment to the Game Management Advisory Commission.  Your Committee finds that Mr. Sanborn currently owns and operates Sanborn General Contracting Inc. where his responsibilities include on-site construction supervision and project management.  Your Committee notes that Mr. Sanborn is a Hilo native and an active licensed hunter in the State who currently sits on the Game Management Advisory Commission.  Mr. Sanborn's professional skills will assist the County of Hawaii in addressing obstacles related to public hunting, access issues, utilization of non-public hunter access lands, and wildlife urban interface issues.  Mr. Sanborn is also willing to meet with stakeholders to strengthen relationships and enhance game management policies and procedures.  Your Committee further finds that Mr. Sanborn thoroughly understands the roles and responsibilities of Commission members and his professional skills will continue to be an asset to the Commission.  Your Committee therefore recommends that Jason Sanborn be reappointed to the Game Management Advisory Commission based on his experience, knowledge, and commitment to public service.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Water and Land that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Water and Land,
