HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the honolulu AUTHORITY FOR RAPID TRANSPORTATION to extend the skyline rail project to the westside of oʻahu.
WHEREAS, the Skyline rail project is a vital component of Honolulu's public transportation infrastructure, designed to alleviate traffic congestion, provide efficient transit options, and support economic growth; and
WHEREAS, the existing route of the Skyline rail project does not adequately serve the growing communities of Nānākuli, KoʻOlina, Māʻili, and the Westside of Oʻahu; and
WHEREAS, residents of these areas face significant commuting challenges, including length of travel times, heavy traffic congestion, and limited public transportation options; and
WHEREAS, extending the Skyline to the Westside of Oʻahu would enhance mobility, improve access to jobs and essential services, contribute to economic development in these underserved communities, and increase the possibility to move large groups of people in an emergency; and
WHEREAS, the expansion of rail services aligns with the City and County of Honolulu's commitment to sustainability and promoting smart growth; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2025, the Senate concurring, that the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is requested to extend the Skyline rail project to include the Westside of Oʻahu, including KoʻOlina, Nānākuli, Māʻili, and Waiʻanae; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation.
