Following the close of the 2023 Legislative Session and throughout the 2023 interim, discussions and plans continued among government stakeholders to establish a behavioral health crisis stabilization center in the City and County of Honolulu and a post-booking trial diversion program in the First Circuit Court of the State of Hawaii. The purpose of this informational briefing is to inform and update the Committee and the public about the status and progress resulting from these discussions and plans, along with the next steps to ensure implementation of these programs.

 

The following individuals are invited to participate in this briefing:

 

1.  Dr. Michael K. Champion, MD, Senior Advisor for Mental Health and the Justice System,

           Office of the Governor, or his designee;

2.  Dr. Kenneth Fink, MD, Director, State Department of Health, or his designee;

3.  Rodney A. Maile, Administrative Director of the Courts, Hawaii State Judiciary, or his designee;

4.  Steve Alm, Prosecuting Attorney, City & County of Honolulu, or his designee.

 

No public testimony will be accepted.
