STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3442
Honolulu, Hawaii
RE: S.C.R. No. 105
Honorable Ronald D. Kouchi
President of the Senate
Thirty-Second State Legislature
Regular Session of 2024
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Agriculture and Environment, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 105 entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HAWAIʻI CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION COMMISSION TO CONDUCT AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM REGARDING THE ACTIVITIES OF INDIVIDUALS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO CLIMATE CHANGE,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose and intent of this measure is to request the Hawaii Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission to:
(1) Conduct an educational program regarding the activities of individuals that contribute to climate change; and
(2) Coordinate with the Department of Health in
the implementation of the educational program.
Your Committee
received testimony in support of this measure from Citizens' Climate Lobby
Hawaii and one individual.
Your Committee
received testimony in opposition to this measure from one individual.
Your Committee finds
that there is misleading information regarding how effective certain actions
are at mitigating climate change. Your
Committee further finds that this may deceive consumers into believing that
they are reducing their carbon footprint more than they actually are. This measure will accurately inform the
public on the personal activities, habits, and lifestyle choices that they can
make to effectively decrease the rate of global warming.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Agriculture and Environment that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 105 and recommends its adoption.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Agriculture and Environment,
|
