A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to cybersecurity.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
The legislature believes that investing in the center for cybersecurity at the university of Hawaii Maui will help the State create educational opportunities, increase job placements, and attract federal funds to support cybersecurity and data science.
Accordingly, the purpose of this Act is to appropriate moneys to support cybersecurity and data science programs at the university of Hawaii Maui college.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $366,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 for supporting cybersecurity and data science programs at the university of Hawaii Maui college, including:
(1) $200,000 for two laboratories and equipment;
(2) $130,000 for one laboratory assistant per laboratory; and
(3) $36,000 for twelve credits of lecture support.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the university of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2023.
