HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
urging the board of water supply to work with dale yoshida to address access to emergency clean drinking water in hawaii.
WHEREAS, ninety per cent of Hawaii's drinking water comes from ground water including wells; and
WHEREAS, well water systems are vulnerable to contamination by pesticides and chemicals, threats of aging infrastructure, and saltwater intrusion; and
WHEREAS, many residents dependent on well water systems would be without a critical resource in the event of a blackout because artisan well systems and other ground water pumps rely on electricity; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Water Supply of the City and County of Honolulu has announced plans to construct the Kalaeloa Seawater Desalination Facility in Campbell Industrial Park to produce 1.7 million gallons of fresh water each day; and
WHEREAS, Dale Yoshida is a subject matter expert on off-grid water solutions such as Watergen devices; and
WHEREAS, Yoshida's "Water for Life Project" could be an asset to the county's efforts to address emergency preparedness and infrastructure resilience; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, the Senate concurring, that the Board of Water Supply is urged to work with Dale Yoshida to address the issue of access to clean emergency drinking water in Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Manager and Chief Engineer of the Board of Water Supply and the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu.
