A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO EDUCATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part II, subpart B, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§302A-
Life
skills curriculum. Each public high school shall make
available to each student a mandatory life skills curriculum in the student's
junior or senior year of school.
(b)
Courses in the life skills curriculum shall teach students:
(1) The
benefits of making wise decisions in financial matters and sexual relationships,
including those related to:
(A) Personal finances;
(B) Building and protecting credit;
(C) Career paths; and
(D) Parenting, nurturing, and providing for
children; and
(2) The negative repercussions of making poor
choices in financial matters and sexual relationships, including:
(A) Poverty;
(B) Domestic violence;
(C) Suicide; and
(D) Homicide."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3 This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
