COM. REP. NO. 1911-24
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2024
RE: S.C.R. No. 3
S.D. 1
Honorable Scott K. Saiki
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty-Second State Legislature
Regular Session of 2024
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Water & Land, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 3, S.D. 1, entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TO CONDUCT TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEYS, PARTICULARLY WITHIN LAVA-FLOW HAZARD ZONES 1 AND 2, TO UPDATE ITS LONG-TERM LAVA-FLOW HAZARD MAP OF HAWAII ISLAND,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to urge the United States Geological Survey to conduct topographical surveys, particularly within lava-flow hazard Zones 1 and 2, to its long-term lava-flow hazard map of Hawaii island.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from one individual.
Your
Committee finds that the United States Geological Survey Miscellaneous Field
Studies Map 2193, which shows long-term lava flow hazards on the island of
Hawaii, was last updated in 1992. Your
Committee further finds that an update to that map could help state and county
emergency management agencies, as well as affected residents and businesses,
better understand risks from volcanic hazards on the island of Hawaii.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Water & Land that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 3, S.D. 1, and recommends its adoption.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Water & Land,
