SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
urging the legislature to preserve, protect, and restore limu kala.
WHEREAS, last year, limu kala was designated as the state limu of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, limu kala populations have been severely damaged by the effects of climate change, development, and runoff; and
WHEREAS, healthy limu kala populations and healthy nearshore ecosystems support food security, biodiversity, and help to combat the negative effects of climate change; and
WHEREAS, actions to support limu kala shall also support healthy reefs and nearshore ecosystems; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, the House of Representatives concurring, that this body is urged to preserve, protect, and restore limu kala to the full extent of its capability; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
