A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the university of Hawaii.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
(1) The appropriation made in this Act is necessary to serve the public interest; and
(2) The appropriation made in this Act meets the needs addressed by this Act.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 to support the aquaculture disease diagnostic laboratory at the state veterinary laboratory building in the department of agriculture animal industry division veterinary laboratory services branch, in partnership with the university of Hawaii college of tropical agriculture and human resources; provided that the sums shall be allocated as follows:
(1) $ to support the aquaculture disease diagnostic lab in its development of the aquaculture production industry;
(2) $ for the establishment of one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) permanent state aquaculture veterinarian position;
(3) $ for the establishment of two full-time equivalent (2.0 FTE) permanent microbiologist III (SR‑20) positions to support the recently hired veterinary medical officer III; and
(4) $ for lab staff, equipment, and supplies to support the marine shrimp broodstock, koi, and oyster export efforts and the day-to-day support for the larger aquaculture production industry.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of agriculture for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2024.
