A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to diamond head.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to honor the history and culture of Hawai‘i by requiring the department of land and natural resources to:
(1) Identify all state and county roads, landmarks, monuments, and public parks that contain the name Diamond Head; and
(2) Identify the process to rename all state and county roads, landmarks, monuments, and public parks that use the name Diamond Head to the traditional place name of Lē‘ahi.
SECTION 2. (a) The department of land and natural resources shall:
(1) Identify all state and county roads, landmarks, monuments, and public parks that contain the name Diamond Head; and
(2) Identify the process to rename all state and county roads, landmarks, monuments, and public parks that use the name Diamond Head to the traditional place name of Lē‘ahi.
(b) The department of land and natural resources
shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any
proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the
convening of the regular session of 2024.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
