As we begin the new year, it is a good time to reflect on our many blessings.
I am so blessed with wonderful family and friends and I am honored and humbled to serve as your senator. Please visit my senate webpage and sign up for my email newsletters to receive updates on what's going on in the legislature and in the community. My staff and I welcome hearing from you in person or via phone or email. Additionally, my 2020 calendar has been mailed and if you did not receive one or would like additional copies, please contact my office and we will be happy to mail one to you.
I continue to thank God every day that I am on my way to becoming one of the 1% long-term survivors of stage four pancreatic cancer. I was extremely ill earlier this year but by the grace of God I am now renewed. I am able to serve you with the help of my family and dedicated staff as I continue to undergo chemotherapy.
I wish you blessings for the new year. Let's live our lives filled with faith, hope and love, and work together to make Hawaii the best place for our families and future generations. There is great hope for the future.
Aloha Friends and Neighbors,
The Capitol is busy with activity since January 16th, the Opening Day of the 2019 legislative session. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the capitol to see me.
This session, I have introduced 20 bills, with my primary focus on adopting a state-wide Vision Zero policy to increase traffic/pedestrian safety. Included in this newsletter is the list of bills I introduced.
Additionally, there are few big issues that the Legislature will be tackling this session, such as legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana, criminal justice reforms, housing, and replacement of the Aloha Stadium.
I encourage you to participate in the legislative process by visiting our capitol website, identifying bills that may affect you, and submitting testimony. Additionally, if you have any questions or concerns relating to state matters, please do not hesitate to contact my office or email me.
Aloha Friends and Neighbors,
Oftentimes it is only during the holidays that we pause to give thanks for what we have. However, we should take the time to continuously give thanks for all things all year around. In addition, we should strive to treat everyone with respect, kindness, and love.
Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.
