Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 2202, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO CEMETERIES,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to grant an exemption to certain entities from the State's laws governing cemeteries and funeral trusts with certain conditions.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs; The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii; MYM Services, LLC; The Roman Catholic Church in the State of Hawaii; Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church; Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary; Sisters of St. Francis of the Newmann Communities; Holy Trinity Catholic Church; and numerous individuals. Your Committee received testimony in opposition to this measure from the Hawaii Funeral and Cemetery Association, Inc.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 2202, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
