     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 1945, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE TRANSIENT ACCOMMODATIONS TAX,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to allocate transient accommodation tax revenues into the Tourism Special Fund and appropriate funds from the Tourism Special Fund for the Hawaii Tourism Authority and Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association to address homelessness in tourist and resort areas, subject to private matching funds.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii Tourism Authority, Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association, The Institute for Human Services, Catholic Charities Hawaii, Hawaii Youth Services Network, Partners in Development Foundation, Aloha Medical Mission, Hawaii Arts Alliance, Kohala Coast Resort Association, Kauai Independent Food Bank, Adult Friends for Youth, Keiki Cupboard, Corvette Center Ministries, Hale Kipa, Residential Youth Services & Empowerment, Aloha Harvest, Keiki Education Living Independent Institute, Friends of the Children's Justice Center of East Hawaii, Hawaii Health & Harm Reduction Center, and four individuals.  Your Committee received comments on this measure from the Tax Foundation of Hawaii, Ohana Christian Fellowship, and one individual.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1945, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
