Sir:

 

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 1929, H.D. 2, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to:

 

     (1)  Extend the deadline for the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation to exercise its power of eminent domain to acquire the Front Street Apartments affordable housing project on Maui, unless the ground lease is renegotiated or a new ground lease is issued; and

 

     (2)  Extend the deadline to obtain land use approval for the Lealii affordable housing project on Maui.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation and Maui Chamber of Commerce.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1929, H.D. 2, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
