COM. REP. NO. 504-20
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2020
RE: H.B. No. 1622
H.D. 1
Honorable Scott K. Saiki
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirtieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2020
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committees on Tourism & International Affairs and Water, Land, & Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred H.B. No. 1622, H.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO TOURISM,"
beg leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to amend the allocation of the transient accommodations tax (TAT) for the operation of a Hawaiian center and a museum of Hawaiian music and dance to also include development of the center and museum.
Your Committees received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii Tourism Authority. Your Committees received comments on this measure from the Tax Foundation of Hawaii and one individual.
Your Committees find that existing law does not allow the TAT allocation to the Tourism Special Fund to be used for development of a Hawaiian center and museum of Hawaiian music and dance. This measure would explicitly allow the TAT allocation to be used for development, in addition to operation, of the Hawaiian center and museum.
As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committees on Tourism & International Affairs and Water, Land, & Hawaiian Affairs that are attached to this report, your Committees are in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1622, H.D. 1, and recommend that it pass Second Reading and be referred to your Committee on Finance.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committees on Tourism & International Affairs and Water, Land, & Hawaiian Affairs,
