SENATE RESOLUTION
convening a restaurant reopening task force to assist in the safe reopening of restaurants throughout the State that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
WHEREAS, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic created an unprecedented public health crisis that has caused significant physical, mental, emotional, and economic harm to the State and its residents; and
WHEREAS, restaurants are an important part of the State's economy and employed nearly eighty-five thousand individuals in 2019; and
WHEREAS, restaurant and other food service employees continue to provide crucial services to the people of Hawaii and deserve protection against COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, restaurant customers also require protection from COVID-19 while patronizing Hawaii's restaurants; and
WHEREAS, in response to COVID-19, the United States Food and Drug Administration and National Restaurant Association have developed recommended best practices and safety guidelines for restaurants; and
WHEREAS, owners preparing to reopen restaurants may require additional guidance on adopting and implementing these recommended best practices and safety guidelines; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2020, that a Restaurant Reopening Task Force be convened to assist in the safe reopening of restaurants throughout the State that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Hawaii Food Industry Association and Hawaii Restaurant Association.
