A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to education.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 37, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part IV to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§37-   Dedicated funds for education. Beginning with the 2020-2021 fiscal year, a minimum of twenty-five per cent of the state operating budget of each fiscal year shall be dedicated to the department of education for all K-12 education related expenses, which shall include, but not be limited to, payments for fringe benefits for staff."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
