A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to education.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a)  The auditor shall conduct an audit of the department of education to determine whether the department is providing its students with a free, appropriate public education that meets each student's individual and unique educational needs, as required under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Public Law No. 101-476, as amended, and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Public Law No. 93-112, as amended.

     (b)  The auditor shall submit a report of the auditor's findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2021.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
