A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to teacher pay.
BE IT
ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 302A-624, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:
"(a) The salary schedule
for all teachers of the department shall be negotiated pursuant to section 89-9[.];
provided that:
(1) For a certified
teacher who has completed a state‑approved teacher education program, the
starting salary shall be no less than $55,000 a year; and
(2) For a certified
teacher who has completed a state‑approved teacher education program and
earned a master's degree from an accredited teacher education program, the
starting salary shall be no less than $60,000 a year."
SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
