WHEREAS, the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, the oldest Hawaiian community-based grass roots organization founded in 1918, advocates for the improved welfare of Native Hawaiians in the areas of culture, health, economic development, education, social welfare, and nationhood; and

WHEREAS, the KO‘OLAUPOKO HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB, first established in August 1937 by a group of kama‘āina residents in the Kāne‘ohe area, continues its effort to support the culture and heritage of Native Hawaiians through its educational and service programs, community outreach, and participation in the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs; and

WHEREAS, the KO‘OLAUPOKO HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB was awarded the Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Outstanding Civic Club of the Year Award at the Association of Hawaiian Civic Club's 59th Annual Convention in November 2018; and

WHEREAS, the Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Award recognizes an outstanding Hawaiian Civic Club that best exemplifies the ideals and example set forth by Prince Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole through service, dedication, and active involvement; and

WHEREAS, some of these qualities include the civic club's active involvement in the Hawaiian Civic Club movement and the community-at-large, contribution and support to furthering the causes of the Hawaiian community, and knowledge of Hawaiian values; and

WHEREAS, the KO‘OLAUPOKO HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB serves its members through providing a range of activities that include field trips and outings to cultural sites; workshops; informational and educational meetings; participation in various community events, service projects, picnics, and social gatherings; and the monitoring and advocating of legislative happenings that directly impact Native Hawaiians and the Ko‘olaupoko community; and

WHEREAS, the KO‘OLAUPOKO HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB's Loo ‘Ohana was also awarded the Pualeilani Outstanding Hawaiian Civic Club ‘Ohana Award; and

WHEREAS, the Pualeilani Award recognizes the special volunteer efforts, dedication, commitment, and service of an outstanding Hawaiian Civic Club's ‘ohana; and

WHEREAS, the Loo ‘Ohana has contributed greatly to the civic club and community, including coordinating Mauna Ala and Ali‘i Sundays; serving on the civic club's board of directors, Kahalu‘u Neighborhood Board, and the Kāne‘ohe Bay Regional Council; providing invaluable guidance to club members on civic club protocols, history, and communications between the civic club, Ke One o Kakuhihewa (O‘ahu Council), and the Association; and supporting each other as well as the civic club in all that they do; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawai‘i, Regular Session of 2019, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates the KO‘OLAUPOKO HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
