The Department of Health, Disease Outbreak Control Division (DOCD) comprises the Disease Investigation Branch, Immunization Branch, and Public Health Preparedness Branch. These programs work together to monitor, investigate, prevent, and control infectious diseases in Hawaii, especially those preventable through immunizations, and to ensure Hawaii’s ability to respond to emergencies that threaten the public’s health.

Influenza activity is widespread in all states except Hawaii, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, Hawaii needs to be prepared for the Flu from visiting tourists.  In addition, the number of confirmed Mumps cases in Hawaii is now at 792. The purpose of this briefing is to have the department discuss their protocol for the following "outbreaks" listed below and provide their recommendations to the Legislature and public at this briefing.

Influenza

Mumps

Hepatitis A

Dengue Fever

Salmonella

Rat Lung Worm Disease

The department may also provide any recommendations for policy for the Legislature to consider.
