Sir:
Your Committee on Education, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 65 entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HONOLULU POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REPORT ON HOW MUCH FUNDING IS REQUIRED FOR ON-CAMPUS SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this
measure is to request the Honolulu Police
Department to:
(1) Report on the costs of
funding on-campus school resource officers, including manpower, the number of
officers necessary, and any other costs required for such officers to be
stationed in intermediate and high schools on Oahu; and
(2) Submit a report to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the 2019 Regular Session.
The Department of Education and an individual supported this measure. The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai‘i opposed this measure.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 65 and recommends that it be referred to your Committee on Finance.
