Your Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce, to which was referred S.B. No. 738, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The
purpose of this measure is to
expand the pool of orthodontists who are eligible to perform orthodontic
services for treatment of orofacial anomalies covered by health insurance to include
any licensed dentist who has completed an orthodontic residency program
accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, Lifetime of Smiles Hawaii, and several concerned individuals supported this measure. The Department of Health, Hawaii Medical Service Association, and Hawai‘i Pacific Health provided comments.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 738, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, and recommends that it be referred to your Committee on Finance.
