Your Committee on Judiciary, to which was referred S.B. No. 2609, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE STATEMENTS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to require the redaction of all financial interest amounts on the financial disclosure statements, which are public records and available for inspection and duplication, of non-paid volunteer members of certain state boards, commissions, and agencies.

Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation and a concerned individual supported this measure. Hawaii State Ethics Commission, League of Women Voters of Hawaii, Hawaii Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, Common Cause Hawaii, Kupuna Caucus of the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Advocates For Consumer Rights, and many concerned individuals opposed this measure.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 2609, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
