A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO STATE EMPLOYEES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 84-3, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended as follows:

     1.  By adding a new definition to be appropriately inserted and to read:

     ""Intern" means:

     (1)  Any person who performs unpaid services for the State for       or more hours per week as part of an internship program established by a private or public secondary or post-secondary educational institution; or

     (2)  A private sector employee who has taken an unpaid leave of absence from their other employment to instead work for the State for a fixed period of time not to exceed       days."

     2.  By amending the definition of "employee" to read:

     ""Employee" means any nominated, appointed, or elected officer or employee of the State, including members of boards, commissions, and committees[,]; interns; and employees under contract to the State or of the constitutional convention, but excluding legislators, delegates to the constitutional convention, justices and judges."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2050.
