A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING to public employment.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 76-28.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

     "(a)  Any person employed in a temporary state position with a term of eighty-nine days or less shall not be eligible for any state employee benefits, including but not limited to benefits under chapters 87A and 88.  No department or agency of the State shall temporarily employ the same person in the same position that is wholly funded by general funds for more than two terms of eighty-nine days; provided that with the approval of the governor, a department or agency of the State may temporarily employ the same person in the same position for eight terms of eighty-nine days within a consecutive twenty-four-month period."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
